Product Description
The Nemo Alti Storm Tent is a suped-up descendant of the Losi model, but with a burlier frame & a more enclosed canopy. The ridge poles continue to the ground, buttressing the tent against high winds, while the inner tent canopy is breathable ripstop for blocking out driven wind, sand, and snow. The fly is full coverage with expansive vestibules and deployable vents. Every exterior anchor, guyout, and zipper pull is reflective for easy spotting with your headlamp and Light Pockets built into the tent provide an easy way to illuminate the interior.

Great Four Season tent for the weight
By Who?
I purchased this tent along with all the possible accessories (footprint, pawprint, gear loft) for primary use as a winter base camp tent for winter hiking in NH. I got the opportunity to test it out on a backpacking trip last weekend (3-16-13). Setting the tent up can be done solo, although it's much easier with some help from a buddy. The poles stick when pushing them through the sleeves sometimes, so having extra hands to help guide them through is helpful. The poles provide very good tension on the tent but are difficult to get into place without help. This is made more difficult when you are in subzero temps, and might have to take a glove off to get a better grip.Once up, we hooked the grommets of the footprint under the tent. They do fall off until you sandwich them under the attachments for the fly. With the fly on, the tent becomes more protective and taut. We staked it out with some REI snow stakes, but the remaining Nemo stakes seemed very tiny for suitable snow use. We used them anyway, and packed them in the snow. Lo and behold, they held very well, so I was pleasantly surprised! We blew up our air mattresses, and wedged them in between the floor and optional "pawprint" accessory. The pawprint is excessive, but it does keep your pad in place and minimizes your sleeping bag sliding off your pad. Nice feature if you don't mind carrying the extra weight. The floorspace is great for a winter tent, and we were able to use one vestibule for gear and cooking in the morning, and the other as our boot, crampon, gaiter putting-on/taking off area. We easily fit the two of us (5'8", and 5'10") toe to head for a comfortable night's rest.Throughout the night, the wind howled with gusts around 20mph. Each time the wind howled, it would release a deluge of snow from the fir boughs above us. The tent stood up well to the wind and snow dumps, no problem. In the morning, we noted some snow had gotten between the fly and tent (there's about 2-3" of space between the two. This could have been the wind blowing the snow up in there though. We stayed comfortable in the tent overnight, but when the wind blew, it would rattle the inside a bit, releasing the frost / condensation that formed on the inside of the tent. At times, it felt like it was snowing inside. Upon waking, the entire inside of the tent was covered in frost and ice crystals. I think this may have to do with exploring additional ventilation options. We had only used the interior upper door ventilation during this test run, and temps were around -10 to 0 outside through the night. The tent is heavy for backpacking. That's for sure. About 11 lbs all told. It comes in a nice bag, which is easy to pack everything up in. There was no way this was going to fit into my pack, so I put it into a separate lightweight bag for backpacking. However, this was not my intended use, so for base camping, I think this will be a non factor. As for the accessories, I would highly recommend the gear loft. It adds additional storage space for all the extras you need for winter camping. Other items to note: the light diffuser pockets are handy and work well. There are 4 large pockets built into the tent, and 4 light diffuser pockets are in the upper corners. There are also 3 venting options. The interior doors can be vented, the exterior doors can be vented at the tops with a lightweight prop, and the upper front and rear of the fly can also be propped.Great design, and for the weight / price, a decent winter tent!
