After researching practically every four season expedition tent available, I decided on the Marmot Thor 2. I am happy to report that there has not been a single moment that I have regretted my choice. It is rugged, versatile, and feature rich.The tent is made of very strong fabrics, most of which are rip-stop, and it is incredibly well sewn and sealed. It comes with a complete field repair kit, which I have yet to use, even though I have used it in winds of at least 100kph. While it comes with six poles, depending on your needs, it can be set up with as few as two. The DAC poles are plenty strong, especially when considering their modest weight, and their interior stretch cords will take quite a beating before breaking. There are numerous guy rope attachments points, only half of which I have yet to use. Also, there are numerous stow pockets and a central roof hook.The interior is quite spacious, more so than other brands. This is due to "Marmot's Knees System" which makes the side walls much straighter than traditional sloped designs. It fits two quite comfortably, and while there is a three person version available, the two person version could snugly sleep three in a pinch. The roof is high enough that only those well over six feet tall will have any issues sitting fully up. The front vestibule is spacious, and even has a window, and there is a small rear vestibule as well.There are two roof vents and front and rear door/insect screen entrys. Humidity build-up is much better than all other tents I have owned and because it is so well sealed, has a water-proof fly, and a catenary cut floor, both you and your equipment will stay dry in downpours.At 3.8 kilos max, this fully loaded tent is not light, but the trade-off is a bomb-proof tent that you can have complete confidence in. Depending upon expected conditions and needs, you can lighten your load by leaving many of the pieces at home, such as some poles, the rain fly, and/or the footprint, so you can significantly lighten your load.
